What race are you? What race do you identify with? Is this a question you ask people? Have you considered just how divisive such a question can be?
Let's flip the situation just a bit. What is race? Is it the amount of reflectivity that your skin has? Is it a certain quality to your hair? Your eyes? Your nose? What is the pigment of the skin on the bottom of your foot? How were you trained to identify race? Is it consistent? Infallible?
What race are you? Can you prove it? Do you have papers? Got Certification?
Do you call yourself "Black" or "African American"? Are those racial identifications or are they cultural affiliations? If you call yourself Black because you identify with a culture called "Black", that's one thing; but if you think that label identifies "race" then you need to awaken yourself to the harsh reality: there is no such thing as a Black race and neither is there such a thing as a White race.
Why do you accept the notion of race? Have you been bullied into perceiving race? Conditioned by other people's definitions and seeking to find evidence of a person's racial category? Is it the first thing that enters your mind upon meeting someone new? Have you in fact become co-dependent in this oppression... furthering it not only by adapting your own behavior but also by guiding your children's behaviors?
I tell you that you have been enslaved by this deceptive pattern of behavior. You are a victim of your own efforts to identify race. There is no such thing as race, except for the notion of race that you create for yourself. Stop choosing to see race and you will find it impossible to be racist any more.
Racism is a trained human behavior. Once you have been conditioned to perceive race, you are likely to be forever racist. Only if you are willing to question the very existence of race — when you are willing to train yourself to no longer identify race — then shall you be able to free yourself of this blinding habit.
