Why is it that every sociology class will bombard students with statistics, generally dividing society by gender, race, and class? This is by design, even if the professors are unaware of the design. By moving ever further away from the individual and casting people into groups... into "masses" as it were... the reality and complexity of individual representations of the human condition becomes obscured and we are left seeing that blacks are paid less than whites, that women are paid less than men, and of course that poor people are paid less than rich people.
But what their statistics don't emphasize is that some blacks make more money than many whites, that some women make more money than many men. When you stop looking at people from a distance and instead get right into their circumstances, you will begin to learn that the person's blackness, femaleness, and poverty status have little explanatory power for their life satisfaction or their ability to achieve their goals. If they believe that they are limited, then they are in fact limited. The whole notion of teaching people that they are oppressed, even in the effort to encourage them to fight that oppression, helps to reinforce their own belief that if they fail, it is not their fault but instead the fault of others. Socialism depends on the masses accepting the guidance of the elite in an effort to overcome the other groups that are identified as oppressors. All the while masking the fact that the elites themselves are the oppressors — they directly oppress the masses that they pretend to assist by reinforcing the belief that the masses are unable to achieve anything on their own... that they must remain dependent upon the benevolence of the elites to guide them toward utopian equality. THE ONLY TRUE SOCIAL EQUALITY IS SLAVERY!
This oppression of the masses by the elites is just like the love addiction that so many battered women encounter with abusive husbands or boyfriends. "He loves me" they tell themselves. "He'll change... things will get better. I can't leave him, I love him." Excuse after excuse until a breaking point is achieved... too often it is the breaking of the woman's skin and bones if not the abuser's skull. The abuser is blind to the fact that he needs to change — that what he is doing is wrong. He believes that it's her fault and if it wasn't for the benevolence of the abuser, she would be homeless and living in utter poverty. And so the cycle repeats, generation after generation. Each new set of abused women believing that things will change, the relationship will get better, he will see the error of his ways and finally make everything magically right. Meanwhile their children live endangered lives while adopting the beliefs that these behaviors are normal.
This is exactly what has happened to create the welfare state — the poor huddled masses who are dependent on the government to tell them what to do and what not to do. The merciful government that gives them just enough money to rent a home, to have food, and to buy the toys and status markers in life that are advertised on the television shows that fill their days with mindless fluff. These are the perpetual victims of society and the statistics keep indicating that their plight is constant, unchanging, but it's not their fault. No... not their own fault, it's those racist, sexist, upper class haters that have systematically kept these people down.
STOP DECEIVING YOURSELF!
It is the social justice liars, the government dependency abusers, the ones who make their living organizing communities and fighting on behalf of the downtrodden... Those are the true oppressors. How much longer will the abused go on looking toward their abusers as though they were saviors? When will they wake up and realize how they have been played all these years as mere pawns in the power games of others?
The answer is as simple as understanding the games being played. The masses have to become un-massed. They can only be converted individually. The further away from the individual your efforts are, the less likely you will succeed in enlightening them toward the virtues of freedom and self-reliance... of pursuing their dreams without fear of being squashed by the racist sexist haters that might stand in their way. There is no collective salvation. Each person must choose of their own accord to live their own lives, independent of the government-induced oppression of the welfare state. Do not be deceived. Be aware, active, and independent!
